Last week the FIFA 2016/2017 football awards took place in London. I obviously followed the awards to see if CR7 won the Best FIFA men’s player award which he did – that a boy “Go CR7, Go Portugal !!”
Another award which was of huge interest to me was the Puskás award for the Best Goal of 2016 / 2017.
Why was it of interest, you might ask?
Any football fan knows that keepers, first off, are bat-shit crazy. (I personally disagree…I think I am perfectly normal). And secondly, that they are on the field to save goals, not score goals.
In this case, a goalkeeper was nominated for this award as he scored a pearl of a goal…yes you read this correctly…a goalkeeper scored a goal.
What made this of more interest to me was the fact that the nominee was a fellow South African keeper by the name of Masuluke Oscarine. Good luck trying to pronounce the name so let’s just call him “Oscar”…LOL!
His celebration after scoring the goal was a classic. He had no clue what to do, but I guess we can call it a happy dance.
I am sad to report that unfortunately, “Oscar” didn’t win the award; a damn idiot striker by the name of Olivier Giroud did. #keeperunion.
CR7, Harry Kane, Usain Bolt, and other famous personalities, all nominated “Oscar’s” goal as their favourite goal for the award. Huge credibility to get such famous people to back the goal.
I totally agree…hell ya he should have won! “Oscar” was robbed and it is an utter disgrace. There should be an audit done…LOL!
In my opinion, just to be nominated for this award is an unbelievable achievement and something we don’t often see in football. We most likely won’t see something like this for a long, long time.
Congrats “Oscar”! Not only did you make us fellow keepers proud, you made South Africa proud. Well done!

Since his world-record move to PSG, Neymar has made constant headlines on and off the pitch.
The most recent controversial headline being his row with Edinson Cavani, Neymar also saw red last weekend for an apparent headbutt.
WTF were you thinking Neymar ??
While most football supporters are fond of Neymar, rumour has it his teammates at PSG don’t quite feel as fond of their new “spoilt brat”; I mean teammate.
Neymar has staggering privileges which reportedly include players not being allowed to go in too hard on him at training and being exempt from defensive duties during matches.
It doesn’t stop there either. He also has two personal physiotherapists to aid his recovery after matches. He has his own branded bag and sponsor, chosen by himself, while his teammates must use club products.
Guess if I played with this “princess” I would feel the same way too. On the other hand, the kid is one hell of a player, so I guess players like him are one-in-a-million and deserve those privileges.
How do you feel about the situation?
My advice to Neymar: buy your teammates expensive gifts; that should shut the jealous babies up for a while!
A Dutch footballer has landed a three-year ban for attacking a referee. Wow, it’s only a game…chill dude!
The incident took place in an amateur match in Holland where the 26-year old ref claims he was stomped on and then punched in the head after sending off a player he once went to school with.
These two must have had some serious school beef. Why didn’t they just settle it over a game of rock/paper/scissors instead?
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen this happen in amateur football. Just ridiculous !!
What happens if you are busy playing a game of football and you need to pee?
It happened to 24-year old Sanford keeper, Max Crocomb. While playing, he could no longer hold it in and decided to take a quick pee at a side stand hoping no supporters would see.
Well, sorry to say Max, apparently everyone in the stadium was watching. Wonder if there was an action replay of him taking a leak ??
Apparently, him urinating does not conform with FIFA rules and when the young man returned from relieving himself, he was shown a red card for his actions. Personally, I think the ref over-reacted.
Salford did end up winning the match 2-1, and is owned by businessman Peter Lim and five stars of Manchester United’s “Class of 92,” Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt.
I wonder what Ryan Giggs & Paul Scholes had say about the toilet break?
Mikel Arteta, the former Arsenal man who now works as a coach under Pep Guardiola, was taking part in a classic pass-and-move drill with City players ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with the Wolves.
Arteta ran in to try and intercept a ball hit towards Sergio Aguero, only for the forward to casually flick the ball through the coach’s open legs.
The Argentinian ran off to celebrate the epic NutMeg with his teammates while Pep fell to his knees with his head in his hands dying of laughter.
I can bet the NutMeg was, and will be, a huge talking point in the change room with tons of laughter from all players for weeks.
How embarrassing…LOL !!
I wouldn’t know what a NutMeg feels like as it’s never happened to me (wink-wink, ya right) !!
Brace yourself for a string of comedic errors during a Chinese League One contest between Yunnan Lijiang and Zhejiang Yiteng.
The debacle started when a Lijiang defender was smacked on the face as he tried to make a clearance. Then, Zhenjiang player, Erpat Dilxat, laced a daisy-cutter of a shot towards the Lijiang goal that bounced several times across the bobbly pitch before reaching the goalkeeper and…
For the rest of the comedy, watch the video and you will either cringe or laugh. I first said “ouch” then busted out the huge laugh!
Really glad I’m not that keeper !!
Red card? No problem !!
Getting a man sent off is not meant to be good for any football team, but incredibly, one top flight side has a whopping 70% win ratio when they have a player see a red card.
Over the last five seasons, research has been done revealing the win ratios of 28 current EPL clubs when receiving red cards.
Newly promoted Brighton and Huddersfield do not feature, as they are yet to suffer EPL red cards. Stoke hasn’t won a game and Arsenal, as well as the Spurs, have a solid 10 wins.
