Love for Golf

A few newsletters ago, I wrote an article on Gareth Bale having a full-sized football pitch at his home in South Wales, and now Bale is at it again…

This time it’s all about golf. He is having a replica of Sawgrass’ iconic 17th hole built in his own back garden!

In 2015, Bale set out plans to build three replica holes from the world’s most famous golf courses.

Sawgrass is to be followed by the famous Postage Stamp at Royal Troon, and then the one and only 11th hole at Augusta.

Bale, an avid golfer, is probably thinking ahead to life after football and it might come sooner than we think as lately, he is always injured.

Hit it straight Bale !! So jealous…

Boot Collection

We all know Cristiano Ronaldo scores a ton of goals, and to score all those goals, CR7 obviously needs the right boots.

He recently launched the Nike “Chapter 5: Cut to Brilliance” boot, which became available at the Nike store at the end of September for £269.95.

These bad-boys feature a diamond inspired graphic, multi-coloured knitting, a CR7 logo, and the date of Ronaldo’s Real Madrid debut.

In this article, you will also get an inside look at Ronaldo’s unbelievable wall of football boots, which is for show at his Spanish €5.4 million home.

Game Rituals

Soccer players usually have the craziest of rituals, myself included.

At game time, 100% of the time I would always put on my left goalkeeping glove first, followed by the right. I would also always step onto the field with my left foot first.

I also remember a teammate who would always dress, but would only put on his team shorts just before he left the change room to go play the game.

Well, one Saturday afternoon we were playing a huge derby game and the stadium was packed. He was so fired up for this game that he forgot to put his shorts on. He left the change room, starts running onto the field, and then realizes he has no shorts on!

We were dying of laughter, and I’m not going to lie, some of us noticed he had no shorts on but decided to keep quiet just for the laugh…it was well worth it!

Thibaut Cortois, the Chelsea 6 ft – 6 in giant, and undoubtedly one of the best keepers in the world, also has a game time ritual.

Click here to find out what it is.

All About Sportsmanship

Not going to lie…this article brings me joy due to the fact that it’s not always about winning at all costs, which is the norm with most youth coach’s these days.

Yes, sportsmanship still exists and this was seen during a recent youth match between Real Madrid and Sevilla.

All youth coaches, do yourselves a favour and read this article. If you are ever in the same situation, please do the same kind gesture.

At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids and their well-being, not winning.

Please remember that !!

Career Change

Rio Ferdinand retired from professional football, then lost his wife, and two years later, lost his Mom; both due to cancer. Having lost my Dad to cancer as well, all I can say is “Fuck Cancer”. It is a horrible disease.

What has Rio decided to do to get through the grief? He has decided to pursue a new career as a boxer.

The 38-year old insists it is not a publicity stunt, but more of a fitness endeavour where he can again challenge himself like he did while playing football. Life after football can be rather boring and there is a huge void since there is no element of competition anymore. Many players struggle with retirement, and a study done last year concluded that a third of football players are divorced within 12-months of retiring. Crazy statistic I know!

Betfair, a huge sportsbook in the UK, has sponsored Rio on his boxing journey. Very nice of them to do this…LOL! A documentary will be filmed following Rio daily on this new journey, which has me somewhat interested to see how he performs in the ring.

Seconds out, Round #1 – Good Luck Rio! Keep the hands up, bob and weave, and whatever you do, don’t get hit! It hurts…

Stolen Keys

Man United star, Rumelu Lukaku, parked his £100,000 Mercedes Benz at the Manchester airport while flying off to do national duty for Belgium. When he returned, he realized the keys to his £250,000 Rolls Royce, which he had left in the Merc, had been stolen. A huge mystery surrounds the stealing of the keys, as the police cannot determine how it was done. Guess the guy was a pro, but of a different magnitude!

My take on this? First off, who leaves keys to a £250,000 Rolls Royce in their car? Secondly, what the heck would the thief do with Rolls Royce anyway? It’s not like he could drive it around Manchester without being spotted.

In the end, an 18-year old was caught and plead guilty to the theft and got a 12-month community order plus 150 hours of unpaid work. He will have a curfew between 8pm and 6am.

Super-Fast Addition

This one will be short and sweet…Ronaldo will be able to reach 60 mph from a standing-start in an incredible 2.9 seconds, while the car’s top speed is reported to be ‘over 211 mph’!

Yes, CR7 just bought himself another car.

Click to find out what car he just bought. So jealous !!
