After numerous failed attempts to become a Barcelona player, the big move finally happened for Liverpool’s “little magician”, Philippe Coutinho.
The 25-year old Brazilian signed a five-and-half-year contract worth a whopping £142 million. The deal was officially confirmed on Monday with the playmaker being unveiled to fans at the Nou Camp. It is believed that Coutinho committed £11.5 million of his own money to help facilitate the deal…that’s so nice of him!
Barcelona said the midfielder is likely to be out for about three weeks, meaning the earliest he could realistically make his debut is the Catalan derby against Espanyol on 4 February.
Good business for Barcelona as they sold Neymar for about £196 million, and with that money bought Coutinho, who is a phenomenal player and the deal leaves them with millions left over.
I cannot help but wonder how the heck small clubs are going to compete with these giants. How will they afford to buy any decent player with transfer fees of this magnitude ??
With Philippe Coutinho’s big money move to Barcelona and a few other huge (and I mean huge) money transfers taking place over the past year, I thought now would be the right time for this article.
Check out the wallet-breakers…the most expensive XI in the world costing a staggering £1.02 BILLION…
Wouldn’t it be nice to be the coach of this side?
These players’ egos would be hard to coach. This is why there are only a few managers in the world who can coach the top sides.
It’s all about keeping players’ egos in check!
When you think of the world’s richest footballers, your thoughts immediately deflect to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar – not a 19-year-old kid who plays in Leicester City’s reserves.
The talented winger is worth an estimated $20 billion.
Yes, you read that right…$20 billion !!
Let’s just say this kid doesn’t play football because of the money – he really doesn’t need it.
Wish it was me! Spoilt brat…
Virgil van Dijk has gone from restaurant pot-washer to world football’s elite…stunning those who felt he would never make it. It is Van Dijk who now has the last laugh. He has proven them all wrong with his meteoric rise to the summit of world football.
Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender when Liverpool paid Southampton £75 million for the Dutchman, who will earn £10 million a year at Anfield.
He had the perfect start at Liverpool with a solid debut performance against rivals Everton in the FA Cup third-round on Friday evening. He scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Anfield.
Wow…Liverpool fans must love him now…
For all those younger players who feel they cannot make it, read Virgil’s cool story..it will give you hope!
The likes of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi have earned obscene amounts of cash, and it’s no surprise that a large chunk of their ridiculous wealth has been splashed on incredible homes.
But which footballer has the most expensive house and how much is it worth?
The American-dubbed the “new Pele”, and tipped as a future world superstar, burst on to the scene scoring four goals for his country at the 2003 Under-17 World Cup at the young age of 14.
At 14, Adu became the youngest ever American to ink a major league professional contract when he joined MLS franchise DC United in 2004.
Two years later, he was training with Manchester United, but was unable to play any games due to work permit issues.
Nothing materialized with the Man United move and many of his other moves.
The “new Pele” has had quite the football journey, playing all over the world and never really living up to the expectations.
Quite sad really…where is Freddy now ??
Being a former keeper, this list is obviously one I enjoy reading.
The number one rated keeper in the world is a 24-year old Slovenian with a strong command of his penalty area, expert positioning, brilliant shot-stopping ability, and all of it with unerring consistency.
In October, he achieved his 50th clean sheet in only his 86th appearance. The numbers look pretty solid to me.
Who is the number one keeper in the world ?? You will be surprised…
