“The Derby of the Peace”.
Ya right…it was nothing close to peaceful…and it was a pay per view boxing extravaganza ??
A Brazilian derby match between Vitoria and Bahia was abandoned with 11 minutes remaining on Sunday in a game marked by a mass punch-up between players from both sides.
It all started after a Bahia goal was scored and it was celebrated with a provocative dance in front of the Vitoria supporters. This led to fury from the home players.
Punches were thrown and five men were sent off; three from Bahia and two from Vitoria.
Two more players, one from each side, were sent off a couple of minutes later, as tempers frayed and trouble spread to the terraces.
With 13 minutes left, a fourth Vitoria player was sent off, prompting Bispo to kick the ball away and force the referee into awarding him his second yellow and a match-ending red.
With teams requiring a minimum of seven players, the referee was forced to end the game.
I would hate to be the referee in this game…absolute chaos !!
One may have thought that the nine sending-offs in Brazil on Sunday was the craziest thing you would see this week…but wait, there is more craziness!
Following the above wild brawl, footballers in the South American nation threw-up another shocking moment for us on Sunday…and it certainly was as eyebrow-raising as cameras caught Operaio star Jefferson Reis punching a young ballboy while celebrating an opposition goal.
That sparked another huge PPV fight between the Reis’ side and Comercial.
What is it with Brazil & fighting ?? Does this mean no more Samba football ??
Gennaro Gattuso, the AC Milan legend and now Manager, has advised his 20-year old starlet Patrik Cutrone to “find a beautiful girlfriend and make love“.
The 20-year-old has impressed in the absence of injured forward Nikola Kalinic, scoring four goals in his last four games.
Not going to lie…wish my previous managers had given me this advice too!
I wonder if Gattuso would fine Cutrone if he arrived late for training and used the excuse…”I found a girlfriend and got laid, you proud of me coach ??”.
Former golden boy Saido Berahino has been ridiculed as the Premier League’s biggest flop since joining Stoke from West Brom for £12million in January 2017.
The striker’s off-field distractions has been a cause of concern after he decided to play with two-teams / women on Valentine’s Day. The striker was forced to change tactics and went into a defensive formation while trying to run away from his very angry fiance.
For an intense, action-packed, and actually quite funny award-winning reality show of events, check this out.
Saido Berahino…what the fuck were you thinking ??
The great Barcelona’s home ground of Nou Camp, which means “new field” in Catalan, is no longer very new…it’s 60-years old and Europe’s biggest stadium.
Not going to lie…for a stadium that is 60-years old, it looks pretty amazing to me. Great players like Lionel Messi, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Ronaldo have all plied their trade on this fantastic pitch.
In saying the above, even though it looks amazing to me, it does need an uplift and that it will get.
How about a £550 million revamp, with a boosted 105,000 capacity (currently 99,000), new indoor arena, and a roof that catches rain in order to water the pitch?
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 and it will be done in phases over four years. The ground will remain open ahead of its expected 2022-23 season kick-off.
Nou Camp is on my bucket list of stadiums to visit…dreams to come true !!
When Paul Scholes came out of retirement, he had to buy his own boots at a local sports shop.
True or False ??
True…he sure did!
Can you imagine being that local shop attendant selling him the boots thinking this must be some sort of prank?
In Paul Scholes’s words, “I didn’t know at the time, but the boots I got were a little bit of a rip-off.”
A pretty funny story for a guy who probably had sponsored boots his whole life!
Former AC Milan owner, Silvio Berlusconi, has had the club up for sale for quite some time before a deal was concluded. He insisted the reason for the delay was because he wanted to ensure the buyers had Milan’s best interests at heart.
Last April he eventually sold the club to a Chinese businessman named Yonghong Li for £628 million.
An investigation has now found that Li’s debts have culminated to the point where he has been forced to declare himself bankrupt and his assets will be auctioned off on Taobao…the Chinese version of eBay.
Yonghong Li now claims he was already insolvent at the time he completed the deal to purchase the team last year.
So much for ensuring the buyer had the club’s best interests at heart Berlusconi…
Sad to see such a powerhouse club be at the point where it is now. I remember the Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard, and Baresi years where they won everything there was to win.
What a team they were!
Fond memories watching some of these games with “Antonio”, my Dad, who always commented that Gullit needed a haircut…too funny !!
