I am testament to this article, as I wore some of these hideous shirts in the early 90’s. I thought I was a cool cat, and at the time I was. But when I look back at it now I can’t help but think, “man, what the hell was I wearing?”. It is ridiculous!
I remember a game I was playing in as a professional wearing a luminous green coloured keeper top. We were down 1-0 and the coach was having his usual half-time rant. He kicked the water bucket and it went all over the players (I wanted to laugh but couldn’t this was a serious talk). He then proceeded to go through every player informing them of how bad they were. When he got to me, with his arms raised and looking dejected, he said “You! Yes, you! You look like a damn town clown with that stupid shirt on! Take that shit off.”. For a split second, I thought to myself “well, if all he berates me for is my keeper shirt, I guess I am playing well.” I noticed he was still glaring at me so off comes the shirt. The funniest part was I replaced one hideous shirt with another. Hideous was the trend of the 90’s. By the way, the coach rant and my hideous keeper shirt worked; we won the game 2-1 and I rocked.
If you are a football fan, you will definitely remember the 20 worst premier league shirts ever.
This brought back some amazing memories for me…good times! I hope this article does the same for you!
